With this post I want to encourage people to use Monero and digital privacy from my Spanish perspective to the rest of the world.
Spanish governments, from socialist and conservative parties, have suppressed personal freedom since some years ago. I don’t want to make this too political, just some context, briefly in 2015 in Spain they approved “Ley Mordaza” which goes against personal freedom in public spaces (https://www.thelocal.es/20150701/the-ten-most-repressive-aspects-of-spains-new-gag-law). Yesterday, they passed a new law, without voting it, which consist on interviening all your communications or shuting down websites in case of “public disorder”. Control all your finantial movements if they want. Any person that is against the government or a political adversary can be shut down. Literally in Spain TODAY there are people in jail for writting in Twitter. Of course the main argument to pass these laws is always to keep the “nation strong” or fight against “terrorism”, like the “Patriot Act” in US.
I belive similar things are happening around the world in different countries, probably in some worse than others. But what I’m only claiming here is personal freedom, today’s affected people in Spain are some, but in the future might be some others. Same applies for the rest of the world.
1.Financial privacy is one of the key points that I would claim in any political movement. Money moves everything. In Spain for example we get 40% income tax and 21% sales tax, CRAZY, it sounds as if we were in a feudalist system (we also have a king :D). This is the same everywhere from the USA to Japan in different magnitudes. They are creating HUGE states that are able to control people everywhere. Private money is a big tool that we now have in our hands; trustless, electronic, anonymous and fungible.
Let’s start promoting XMR, small actions (even starting with BTC if XMR is too iliquid and difficult to use!) :
– Sending a bit to the friend that you owe 5$ and is interested in crypto but has never had the guts to try it
– Explaining to local people in bars, shops or private teachers about it, see if they accept 1 payment in it.
– Small companies, try out to pay a third of a salary in XMR.
Let’s start transacting peer-to-peer, starting a parallel economy beyond government’s control that evolves from small steps to big ones.
2. Digital privacy. Start using measures for digital privacy. Big companies and governments now have more power over you that they did 20 years ago. They know your location at any time, what you like, what you buy, where you go,…
For example; start with duckduckgo, delete Facebook or use VPN/Proxies. Follow r/Privacy to get the best of it. Take a look at phone Librem 5.
I had to write this out! Cheers!
PD: Don’t take it political at local level, I’m a libertarian and I don’t vote at home.
