No it’s not. That’s just propaganda from /r/bitcoin. They remove any positive post about Bitpay and leave the negative posts. I use Bitpay to buy food with when I am in Europe. I use it for my VPN and seedboxes, for my hosting with namecheap, and for voipbuster. It’s more convenient than having to type in your credit card number. And it’s compatible with by favorite Bitcoin software. You click the payment url, your software opens, you click send, type in a password (if you set one) and pay. And it auto tags the payments so you don’t need to do any accounting.
You should try it. Bitpay is great, one of the top companies that has achieved some meaningful adoption. Being an enemy of Bitpay is being an enemy of adoption.
Then again if Bitcoin Core devs wanted mass adoption they would have upped the blocksize limit to avoid congestion and high fees which render Bitcoin slower and more expensive than other payment options and thus completely rendering it useless.
